Study Abroad

Study of and in other cultures can be a significant part of a liberal education. Greensboro College therefore encourages its students to participate in its programs of study abroad. Details about the individual programs, along with information on how to apply for them, are available from the Study Abroad Advisor. Students also should consult with a Greensboro College faculty member in the intended discipline of study.

Summer Study Abroad

Through its own summer school, Greensboro College offers to qualified students a for-credit program involving travel and study abroad. Typically students enroll for a five-week summer session, some portion of which is spent abroad.

North Carolina Semester in Paris

Greensboro College is a member of the North Carolina Semester in Paris Consortium. Other member institutions are the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Guilford College, High Point University, East Carolina University and Elon University; the Consortium is administered by the Office of International Programs at UNC-W and is directed by the program director, who resides in Paris. Courses are taught by the program director, and occasionally courses are taught by faculty from the member institutions.

The Semester in Paris program is offered in the fall of each year. If there is sufficient enrollment, a Spring Semester program is offered.

Any students who have completed at least two semesters of college-level French and who have an overall grade point average of at least 2.75 are eligible to participate in the Semester in Paris program. Students who complete the program may receive 15-18 semester hours credit.

Total cost for the program includes tuition, housing and some meals, and selected excursions in and around Paris.

The Connexion

The Connexion is Greensboro College's exchange program with Southlands College of the University of Surrey Roehampton in London. Participation in The Connexion is open to students of all majors who have earned at least 26 semester hours while enrolled at Greensboro College prior to the start of their participation in the exchange program. Preference will be given to those students who have earned a minimum cumulative grade point average of 2.75, and students who participate in The Connexion are expected to be in good academic, financial, and disciplinary standing.

Students may participate in The Connexion during the Fall Semester, the Spring Semester, or for an academic year. Total cost of the program is the same as the cost of the same term at Greensboro College for a traditional, residential student.

Other Study Abroad

Students may undertake study abroad in any other program sponsored by an accredited college or university. Information about such programs is available from the Study Abroad Advisor. Credits and grades earned in such programs will be considered according to Greensboro College's regular transfer policy. Before enrolling in any study abroad program, therefore, students should consult with a Greensboro College faculty member in the intended discipline of study.

The Council on International Educational Exchange is a nonprofit, nongovernmental organization committed to helping people gain understanding, acquire knowledge and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent world. The Council administers study abroad programs, collectively known as Council Study Centers, on behalf of a consortium of colleges and universities. Greensboro College is a member of the Academic Consortium for Study Abroad and currently sponsors study centers in 16 countries. Students who are interested in learning more about the Council Study Centers sponsored by Greensboro College should contact the International Studies Coordinator or the Study Abroad Advisor.

Students participating in Study Abroad Programs must register in one of the following courses for the term in which they will be abroad.
