INTERNATIONAL STUDIES (INT)

The minor in International Studies is an interdisciplinary course of study designed to provide knowledge about various aspects of societies outside the United States. The aim is to focus on non-Western and Western societies in order to develop an awareness and appreciation of diversities around the world. This knowledge will prepare students to live productively and humanely in their professional and personal lives.

Minor Requirements

The minor in International Studies requires 18 semester hours, 9 of which are required hours and 9 of which are electives.

Required Courses:

HIST 102 World History II
SOC 201 Cultural Geography
POL 250 International Relations

Electives:

Students must select 9 hours in a specific discipline or geographic area, such as art, business and economics, literature, language, history, politics, religion, society, Europe, Latin America, Africa, Mexico, Canada, South Asia, China, Japan, etc. These courses may be selected from among those available through Greensboro College and/or through internships and Study Abroad. Students may also design a Directed Study course in the field of concentration. The courses must be selected in consultation with the coordinator of the International Studies minor and a faculty member in the field of concentration. Illustrations of possible combinations are available from the coordinator of the program. Students wishing to travel abroad as part of the program to a country whose native language is not English will require proficiency in that country's native language. One or two hours of independent study on that country may also be necessary.
