Blomgren was a full-time special education teacher with the Greensboro City Schools when she came to Greensboro College in 1979 as a part-time special education instructor. In 1988 she joined the College community as a full-time faculty member, fulfilling a lifetime goal, and in 1992 she became the director of teacher education.

Blomgren said: "Greensboro College has afforded me the opportunity to teach, lead and reflect in ways that have been personally and professionally fulfilling. For 16 years I've had the joy of teaching educational foundations for the teacher education program and have journeyed out of Plato's cave and into the classrooms with my students as they realize their own aspirations. The really wonderful aspect of being a teacher educator is the daily relationship I enjoy with truly good people."

According to Blomgren, Greensboro College's teacher education program has continued to receive national accreditation; was recognized by the state as being one of the finest programs in North Carolina; has initiated a number of projects related to diversity, technology, portfolios and partnerships; has designed a successful alternative licensure program; and has begun the process of developing a graduate studies program.

Blomgren says that reflection is the final benefit of living the teaching life. She comments that as teachers have been increasingly guided to reflect and reform their practices, the entire teacher education program has come to embrace reflection as its foundation. Although she feels the increasing demands of being a faculty member in a vital and growing community, reflection and reformed action continue to be at the heart of life in the teacher education program at Greensboro College. "It is really a luxury to be affiliated with a profession and a community that value, expect and nurture reflection," said Blomgren.
