The Program:
A limited number of spaces are offered to students presently attending US colleges and universities in the program operated by the Training and Employment Agency of the Northern Irish Government. Places are available at Queen's University, Belfast, the University of Ulster, the Belfast Institute for Further and Higher Education and others. Students accepted into the program are designated as Irish-American Scholars and will have the opportunity to study for a semester or a year at one of these institutions.
Queen's University (www.qub.ac.uk/), is the major institution for the study of the humanities, social sciences and sciences. It is also a good place for the study of history, literature, Irish studies, languages, women's studies, social anthropology, and extensive programs in agriculture, engineering, and law.
The University of Ulster (www.ulst.ac.uk/), has faculties of art and design, business and management, engineering, humanities, science, social and health science, and education. Other programs at the University of Ulster include leisure and tourism, language and literature, media and performing arts, environmental studies, knowledge engineering and artificial intelligence, peace and conflict studies, and the University of Ulster is also strong in Irish studies.
The Belfast Institute for Further and Higher Education (www.belfastinstitute.ac.uk/), is strong in business, including banking and finance, European business administration, distribution, marketing, and information technology. Other programs include hotel and catering international management, food production, travel and tourism management, and software engineering.
