The College:
The Anglo-American College (AAC) in Prague, Czech Republic, offers a
unique opportunity for students at United Methodist-related colleges to
study in an historic and cosmopolitan city in Central Europe. The
Anglo-American College is a private college with a business emphasis
and a solid liberal arts core; students may spend either a semester or
a year of study in Prague. Students who study for a year in Prague and
take a prescribed series of courses can receive a certificate in
Central European Studies. The College's Web site is www.aac.edu.
The Program:
The Anglo-American College was founded in 1990; it is the first
independent liberal arts college of its kind in the Czech Republic. It
aims to provide an alternative to higher education for students of
Central Europe through western-style degree programs in humanities,
business and economics, and legal studies.
Classes are taught in English and the academic program matches
the US approach, with a normal semester load of five
three-semester-hour courses, thereby facilitating transfer of credits
to US colleges and universities. Courses are offered in business
administration and politics and society, and studies are available in
legal studies and journalism. Classes are offered in accounting, art,
business, computer information systems, communication, economics,
marketing, philosophy, politics, psychology, religion, and sociology.
Admission:
Students who wish to apply for this program must be in good standing at
Greensboro College, with a GPA of 3.35. Students must submit a copy of
their transcript, a letter of reference from a faculty advisor, and a
250-word essay on what they expect to gain from and study at the
Anglo-American College.
