Admission Policies for International Students

Greensboro College welcomes applications from qualified international students. The application procedures are the same as those for secondary school graduates or transfer students, with the exception of test requirements. International students must prove English proficiency in one of three ways: satisfactory scores on the Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT), a written score of 550, a computer score of 213 or an internet score of 79 on the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or successful completion of the 109 level at any ELS Language Center.

International students may only be admitted into degree-seeking programs and must plan to be enrolled as a full-time student throughout the duration of their studies.

The deadlines to send your application for admission are:

  • June 1 for the semester beginning in late August
  • October 1 for the semester beginning in mid-January

If a student is admitted, a $200 reservation fee if required to hold space in the entering class and in the residence halls. This reservation fee must be received before the I-20 is issued. If entering in the fall semester, this fee is refundable if requested by May 1.

North Carolina law requires that all students be properly immunized. Students must submit immunization records signed by a physician or stamped by the Health Department. Accident and hospital insurance can be arranged through the College. Medical care in the United States is very expensive. Proof of medical insurance is required at the time of enrollment.

Employment:

Limited part-time work is available on campus. After nine months of study, there are also limited opportunities for practical training off campus.

Please Read Carefully:

Approval for admission to Greensboro College does not guarantee entry to the United States . That decision is made by the United States consul in the applicant's home country. High school students who attended high school in the United States must provide copies of all immigration paperwork at the time of application.

Students who wish to transfer from another United States college must submit a Transfer Clearance Form, a copy of current I-20 or I-94 and an official transcript from your current college or colleges previously attended.

Upon Acceptance:

Upon being accepted to Greensboro College, the Associate Dean of Students will review the Affidavit of Support/Certification of Finances on record. An I-20, student visa, will then be created and sent to the home address listed.

In order to validate the I-20, the form I-901 should be completed and a SEVIS Fee of $100 is required. The form can be completed and payment made on-line at www.fmjfee.gov. The printable receipt should be retained.

In order to enter the United States, international students (except from Canada) are required to have a visa stamp in their passports as well. This can only be issued by a U.S. embassy. All visa applicants are required to have a visa interview at the U.S. embassy in their home country. At some embassies the waiting period for an appointment can be six
weeks or more. Interviews should be scheduled as soon as possible. The I-20 form for Greensboro College and the I-901 fee receipt are required for an interview. Some embassies require additional paperwork and certifications. Verification of required forms at individual U.S. embassies is encouraged, prior to scheduling an interview.

After a student has completed a visa interview, the Associate Dean of Students should be contacted to verify the visa and to confirm travel plans.

What to Send Ahead:

  • Immunization records
  • Enrollment Handbook Forms – An Enrollment Handbook will be mailed to accepted students. Returning these forms as soon as possible guarantees the College’s ability to be prepared for your arrival.
