Greg grew up on a small farm in the foothills of North Carolina, attending West Wilkes High School before graduating (Summa Cum Laude) from Greensboro College with a B. S. in Biology in 1980. He holds a M.S. and a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from The Pennsylvania State University and the University of Florida. Greg has worked as a field researcher in Florida, an organizer of research, and as a regulatory manager in Greensboro and Basel, Switzerland in the crop protection industry. He currently leads the State Regulatory Affairs and Federal Label Support team for Syngenta Crop Protection whose NAFTA headquarters are sited in Greensboro. While in Europe, he was the EU Commission Liaison for a predecessor company of Syngenta. He currently serves on two Federal Advisory Committee Act (FACA) groups that work cooperatively with and provide advice to the Environmental Protection Agency on matters of policy and process.
On the personal side, Greg and his wife Eileen (who also holds a Ph.D. in Plant Pathology from Penn State and works for Syngenta as the NAFTA Business Development team leader) reside in Lake Jeanette. Greg is a board member of the Lake Jeanette Homeowners Association. They are blessed with two sons Kemper and Banning and share their house with Ursula, a ‘fearsome’ Schipperke. GC graduates may recognize Kemper’s name; he was named for Dr. Kemper L. Callahan who was Greg’s major advisor and responsible for introducing Plant Pathology as a science/career to Greg. He is a member of Mount Pisgah Methodist Church and is active as a youth Sunday school teacher including assisting the Confirmation class.
Greg has been a decade member of the Alumni Board for several years prior to becoming president. Greg wants to acknowledge and express his thanks for the excellent work of his predecessors including Nelda Reynolds Cockman, Mayo Harlow, and Rita Ledford. He looks forward to working with Julie Hayes - our excellent Alumni Director, the Executive and Alumni Board, GC alumni, and the College to support and move forward the mission of Greensboro College.
