Elizabeth Appenzeller begins her second year as Greensboro College's Cheerleading Coach/Spirit Liaison in 2007-08. She was appointed to the position on August 1, 2006.
Appenzeller earned her Masters of Science in Sport Studies in December, 2006 from High Point University. She is a graduate of Guilford College where she received a Bachelors of Arts degree in History and a Bachelors of Science degree in Criminal Justice in 2004. Appenzeller also attended Barry University School of Law, in Orlando, FL and Appalachian State University, in Boone, NC.
Appenzeller has had an extensive
background with cheerleading. In High school she was a varsity cheerleader
and a Shrine Bowl Cheerleader in 1998. In 1999, her team placed 1st in
the All Union County Cheer Competition. She was also named a high school
All-American Cheerleader.
In addition to her High School experience,
Appenzeller has cheered at both Guilford College and Appalachian State
University, as well as at the All-Star level with the Danville Cheer Force.
Apart from serving as the assistant coach here at High Point, she has served as both coach and director for Spears YMCA all-star cheerleading program. Appenzeller is a certified coach under the American Association of Cheerleading Coaches and Advisors. In addition, she has been certified with National Council for Spirit Safety and Education (NCSSE) since 2006.
As sprit liaison coordinator, Appenzeller is involved in promotional activities on behalf of the department as GC conducts more community outreach and game-day entertainment at selected venues.
"It's also exciting that our new coach was an intercollegiate athlete who is passionate about sports and wants to make a difference here at GC," said Pride Athletics Director Kim Strable. "Elizabeth has the personality and skill to be a great cheerleading coach and also with the new role and working with our spirit committee on campus and in the greater Greensboro community."
