We will now begin what we call “Beyond All-Conference” honors. These individuals are making their way to stage left to receive this recognition.
As mentioned earlier in our program, Greensboro College
student-athletes earned an impressive eight “major all conference” honors this past year. And there are three student athletes that have yet to be recognized on stage for these distinctions.
-Senior Ashley Cabral became the first ever Pride woman to earn the honor in soccer. She set many records and also showed determination and strength in preserving through injuries.
-Carrie Pacifico, also a senior earned the award in women’s tennis for the third straight time! Carrie certainly steam rolled the competition this Spring and won the USA South sportsmanship honor. She’s truly a classy individual.

Next, volleyball has a libero (lee-bear-o), or defensive specialist, award. Senior Joy Daniels became the First Pride student-athlete to win this distinction in 2007.Joy has been a “joy’ to watch diving for balls and keeping points alive.
-GC had three newcomers, all freshmen, selected USA South “Conference rookie of the year”
-Michelle Gabson earned the distinction in volleyball. Gabby settled in and established herself as one of the most feared hitters in the conference.
-J.R Pike was the top rookie pitcher in USA South baseball. When given the ball the ball, J.R. responded with poise and he had the best E.R.A. on the team.
-Golfer Josh Ryals was voted the top newcomer in his sport. Like Gabby, Josh grew as the season progressed. By season’s end he was a top-notch collegiate golfer.
This is the fifth year North Carolina sports information directors, or NCCSIA (Nick-suh), have picked All-State Teams
Soccer players Ashley Cabral, Robert Fricke, Tessa Hall, Eric Hatchett and Ryne Nichols were picked to their college division teams.
Adam Nicholson, Danielle Duncan and Dione Eccles were picked all state in basketball.
Volleyballer Joy Daniels was picked to the volleyball squad.
-Next , let’s recognize those picked “All region”, once again, the spring sports will release their teams later and we will recognize those winners in August.
- Logan Greene and Torrey Lowe were named second team all region by D3Football.com
-In soccer Ashley Cabral, Robert Fricke, Tessa Hall and Eric Hatchett earned NSCAA regional honors.
- Ashley Cabral, Tessa Hall and Robert Fricke won regional accolades from D3Kicks.com
-Basketballers Dione Eccles and Adam Nicholson were dubbed all region by D3Hoops.com
Next, we want note the student athletes earning regional or national Academic team honors.
Joy Daniels and Morgan Michelsohn received regional and national academic team recognition from -CoSIDA.
In soccer, Ben Norman and Andrew Clark made the CoSIDA Academic All South Region Soccer Team.
-Ben Norman was also picked to the region’s Academic Team by the NSCAA.
-Our last academic honor is a team honor presented to the men’s soccer team by the NSCAA. Our soccer players on stage all accept that great honor!
Great job to these young people for being true student-athletes!
Lastly, we have two coaches that we’d like to call out for their successes.
-And, we found this out just 2 days ago, Dan Cetrone has been selected to coach the South team in next month’s prestigious North-South All Star Game, which will be held in Boston next month!
Lastly, Jason Tuggle won the USA South women’s basketball coach of the year honor. This is Tuggle's third coach of the year honor in the last four years and his fourth in six seasons.
