Village 401/Pride of Service Award

For the fourth time, the Village 401 Community Service Office will present an athletic Pride of Service award.
This award will go to the athletic team that has made the most significant contributions to the Village 401 program through attendance and participation in events.  The Pride of Service award will also recognize the team that has made an impact within the “village” through their volunteer efforts during the 2007-2008 academic year.

Village 401’s Valere Ditto says:

“This year Village 401 had the pleasure of working with 60 guys that were ready and willing to help the office with anything needed when it came to big volunteer projects. Between practice and academics, these busy players dropped everything to help with our fall events. Events such as Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week and Angel Tree would not have been a success without the hard work of these players and the dedication of their coach.”

The Pride baseball team has been successful on the field and very busy as volunteers! Congratulations Coach Carlyle to you and your team for your heartfelt support of the community at large.

Trey Taylor Award

Our next special honor is presented by GC Head Baseball Coach Ken Carlyle.  The Trey Taylor Award honors one baseball player--chosen by his teammates--who combines baseball skill with a commitment to team and players, above and beyond self. This award is presented in memory of a fallen teammate, Trey Taylor, who possessed all of these fine qualities and passed away during the 1997 season.

The 2008 Trey Taylor Award is presented to Jacob Tomb. "What a great person and teammate," Coach Carlyle said. "I can not ask anymore than what he gives me on and off the field. He truly loves the game of baseball and will do whatever it is to become the best person and player he can be."

Congratulations Jacob Tomb! And our sincere thanks to Mr. And Mrs. Taylor for your support of this special recognition.

Athletic training/AT Service Award

Our next honoree receives the Athletic Training Service Award, presented by Ted Eaves, GC’s head athletic trainer.

Christina Denney has been named the 2007-08 athletic training service award winner, and we invite her to come forward…

Christy has spent her senior year working with the football team and at Guilford Orthopedic clinic.  This year especially, Christy has demonstrated the dedication, work ethic, and willingness to learn that is so essential to be an excellent athletic training student… and the recipient of this award.

Ladies and gentlemen, Christy Denney, our Athletic Training Service Award winner! Congratulations, Christy

Power Pride Award

The "Power Pride Award” goes to an individual—faculty, staff, student, or booster--who has gone above and beyond in supporting Greensboro College athletics and its teams. The honor was established in the year 2000.

The 2008 winner of the Power Pride award easily could have won this award in any of the last five years.
I’ll repeat the key phrase of this award “a person who has gone above and beyond in supporting Greensboro College athletics and its teams.”

Those words certainly identify this year’s winner: Chris Adams. As he comes forward, let me tell you a little about our honoree.

Chris is the manager of Ashford Suites Hotel. Five years ago, GC athletics and Chris started a business relationship and his property became the preferred hotel for The Pride.

Yet Chris and Ashford Suites have gone “above and beyond” in many ways. His hotel regularly hosts a start-of-the-year reception. When Pride athletics needed a venue for the 2007 holiday party, it was Ashford Suites that stepped up at the last minute.

That’s just one example, yet Chris himself, goes “above and beyond” in many other ways.

-He rivals Lem Cox for most omnipresent Pride fan.

-He serves on the board of the Circle Pride Athletics Booster Club.

-But most important is the extra personal touch that Chris offers. He cares about Greensboro College student-athletes, staff and coaches. In short he’s a quality friend to us all and of Pride Athletics.

It is with sincere gratitude that we present the 2008 Power Pride Award to Mr. Chris Adams!
