2004 Greensboro College Cross Country Posts Breakthrough Season

The Greensboro College men's and women's cross country teams placed second at the USA South Championships, held Oct. 30th at Hagan Stone Park in Pleasant Garden. Both finishes matched
the best showings in program history.

"Our whole season is geared toward a strong finish at the conference meet," said Pride Head Coach Jason Tuggle. "For both of our teams to finish second is a great benchmark for our student-athletes."

Doug Holbrook led the way for The Pride in the USAS meet. He finished ninth with a time of 28:47. Teammate Michael Barnard was 11th with a 30:02 clocking. Other times were: Brian Holloway, 18, 32:28; Jonathan Southall, 20, 33:28; Ian Prevas, 24, 35:15; Johnnie Williams, 26, 35:52 

On the women's side, Bett Shelby was eighth with a time of 29:13. The rest of the Pride finishes were: Amanda Currie, 13, 32:00; Kim Maher, 15, 32:28; Jamie Funk, 18,35:01; Heather Lanier, 21, 37:23 and Stephanie Robertson, 28, 45:26.

When USA South Conference honors were awarded, Holbrook earned first team honors and Barnard and Shelby were chosen to the USAS second team.

On Oct. 5th, Holbrook broke his own Pride 5K mark with a 16:53 clocking against Fayetteville State. He also holds the GC 8K career record.
