Greensboro College student athletes won three USA South weekly awards presented by the conference office. The Pride honorees are:
--Volleyball Player of the Week
Katie Smith, Greensboro- The junior from Colfax, NC kept the Pride competitive in a 2-3 week. The Pride defeated Methodist, 3-0, then went 1-3 at the Washington University Tournament. Over the course of 17 games, Smith posted 4.59 kills and 2.53 digs. The middle hitter was named to the All-Tournament Team. GC lost to Washington, 3-0, Fontbonne, 3-0, and UW-LaCrosse, 3-0 and beat Illinois College, 3-2.
--Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week
Doug Holbrook, Greensboro - The Thomasville, NC junior set a new GC 5k mark in a dual win over Fayetteville State. He finished first of 12 runners in a time of 16:53. He then finished ninth out of 30 runners at the N.C. Central Invitational with a time of 28:35.
--Women's Cross Country Rookie of the Week
Bett Shelby, Greensboro - The Matthews, NC rookie led the Pride to a tri-meet win over Fayetteville State and Bluefield. She finished first out of 20 runners with a time of 24:10. At the N.C. Central Invitational, Shelby finished 14th out of 62 runners with a time of 23:21. The Pride finished sixth out of 10 teams.
