Saturday, September 28, 2002

Salisbury, Md - Senior RB Tony Ellis rushed for 176 yards and two
touchdowns as Salisbury remained unbeaten with a 23-18 non-conference
win over at home over Greensboro. The Sea Gulls, off to their best start
since 1986, improved to 4-0, while Greensboro falls to 1-2.

Second quarter field goals of 50-yards and 20-yards by Erik Naglee
provided Greensboro with a 6-0 lead. Ellis then put Salisbury ahead to
stay by capping a 75-yard drive with a 36-yard touchdown run with 35
seconds remaining. The two-point conversion run gave the Sea Gulls an
8-6 halftime lead.

Another long Ellis score accounted for the only scoring in the third
quarter. The senior extended Salisbury's lead with a 70-yard touchdown
dash. Another successful two-point PAT pushed the lead to 16-6 with 9:00
remaining in the quarter.

QB Dustin Johnson's five-yard touchdown run at 14:20 of the fourth
quarter extended the Salisbury lead to 23-6 before Greensboro began its
comeback.

The Pride pulled to within 23-12 when QB Boomer Durham connected with
WR Priest Everhart on a 20-yard scoring pass with 13:13 left in the
game. Following a blocked punt, Greensboro then scored again on a
five-yard pass from Durham to WR Ricky Moore with 8:00 remaining.

Greensboro would get one more possession in the game, but Durham was
intercepted by Salisbury CB Pat Barnes to end that threat with 4:50 left
in the contest. Salisbury then ran out the clock with a 10-play drive
that ended on Greensboro's four-yard line as time expired.
