GREENSBORO, N.C. – Chris
Sullivan ran for 96 yards and scored the game’s only points as Washington
& Lee University defeated Greensboro College, 6-0, at Jamieson Stadium
on Saturday afternoon. The game was the season finale for GC (4-6) and
the Generals (5-5).
Sullivan set the Washington
& Lee all-time rushing mark during the game. With his 96 yards, he
set a new benchmark is 3152 career yards. The previous W&L rushing
mark was held by Marc Watson (1997-01) with 3,112 yards.
His 7-yard run in the second
quarter was the game’s only tally and capped a 12 play 54-yard drive. The
PAT was blocked.
The game was played during
continuous downpour and a very sloppy track. The W&L defense took advantage
of the conditions by holding GC to 118 yards of offense. Through three
quarters The Pride had just 45 total yards and had not reached General
territory.
The Pride, however, was threatening
to score in the game’s final minute. GC had the ball at the General 16-yard
line. W&L’s Joe Greenhill intercepted Boomer Durham’s (7-16-1,
73 yards) pass in the end zone with four seconds left in the game.
Marc Clapp was GC’s
leading rusher with 49 yards on 15 carries.
The Pride defense played
extremely well during the contest. GC had two goal line stops inside its
own five-yard-line. Senior Josh Daniels, GC’s all-time leading tackler,
had 11.5 stops on the day. His new career tackle mark is 253. General
Ben Krasnoff led all tacklers with 14.5.
