Two Big Wins Highlight 2004
Pride College Football Season

The Pride Football team closed the 2004 season with a 2-8 record. GC, however, earned its first ever win over a ranked opponent when they defeated #30 Shenandoah (24-19). The Hornets would later win the USA South championship and qualify for the NCAA playoffs.

In the win over SU, senior running back Quentin Caldwell rushed for 117 yards for GC. Caldwell notched four 100-yard games in '04 and finished the year with 789 rushing yards and a 4.8 yards-per- carry average. He closed his career with 2,090 yards and is second on The Pride all-time list.

GC also bested cross-town rival Guilford, 28-7. The Pride rushed for 309 yards in its second straight win over the Quakers. “Winning the Souper Bowl is always a season highlight for us,” said Greensboro
College Head Coach Neal Mitchell after the game.

Following the season, Greensboro College placed ten student athletes on the All-USA South football team. Leading the way for The Pride was John Sheridan. The senior led the USA South in punting (36.9 average) and was GC’s lone first team pick. The senior also placed eight punts inside the opponent’s 20-yard line.

Greensboro placed four student-athletes on the conference’s second team: David Baity, Charles Cobb, Corey Eadie and Justin Patterson.

Defensive lineman Baity recorded 30 tackles and had a team-leading eight tackles for loss for The Pride. A senior, he also had 2.5 sacks and recovered one fumble.

Cobb, a defensive back, recorded 37 tackles for GC. Fellow senior Patterson had 27.5 tackles and five tackles for loss from his defensive end position.

Eadie, a freshman wide receiver, set a school record with 56 receptions. He had 533 receiving yards and three touchdowns for The Pride.
