Christopher Newport defeated Greensboro College, 31-7, in front of 3,017 at POMOCO Stadium on Saturday.

The Captains scored first after gaining possession after a Greensboro fumble. Roland Hilliard rushed 8 yards for the score. Jason Broskie's PAT gave CNU an early 7-0 lead with 9:25 left in the first quarter.

CNU increased its lead to 14-0 on Curfew Speight's 14-yard touchdown pass from Hudson Bryant. Broskie made the PAT with 8:43 remaining in the first half.

The Pride cut the lead in half just before halftime on a 10-yard touchdown pass from Justin Roberson to Kenyatta Campbell. Ryan Richardson's PAT was good and Greensboro trailed 14-7 with 22 seconds left before intermission.

CNU would add 17 points in the second half. The first score came on a Brandon Carter 2-yard touchdown run with 3:32 left in the third period. Jason Broskie gave the Captains a 24-7 lead with 8:26 remaining in the game when he connected for a 22-yard field goal. The final score game on an Ian Vincent interception return 40 yards for a touchdown with 6:20 left in the fourth quarter.

Quentin Caldwell led GC with 38 yards rushing on 10 attempts. Roberson finished 12-of-22 with two interceptions for 110 yards. The Captains allowed just 157 yards of total offense. Campbell finished with three catches for 68 yards.

CNU was led on the ground by Hilliard. He finished with 83 yards on 18 attempts. Branden Jones finished with 25 yards on six carries. Bryant completed 12-of-24 passes for 175 yards. Nathan Davis caught six passes for 79 yards.

Greensboro falls to 1-4 overall and 0-2 in the USA South. CNU improves to 3-2 overall and 1-1 in the USA South.
