N.C. Wesleyan Upends The Pride, 14-6
Rocky Mount, N.C. -- Javon Williams
scored on a one-yard run to lead North Carolina Wesleyan College to a 14-6
victory over Greensboro College on Saturday. The Bishops earned their first
win in just their second game of intercollegiate football.
The Pride dominated the game statistically
and had a standout performance by Quentin Caldwell. The senior runningback
ran 24 times for 132 yards.
GC out-gained NCWC 336 to 177 yards.
The Pride offense, however, did not score a touchdown in the game.
"To move the ball consistently and
out gain your opponent by so much and lose is frustrating," said GC Head
Coach Neal Mitchell. "We're going to work in practice on converting
our scoring opportunities."
The GC defense held the home team
to just eight first downs and 65-yards rushing. Mantron Davis led
the group with nine tackles (five unassisted).
It was the Bishop defense, however,
that scored the games first points. Eric Craven recovered a fumble in the
end zone for a first quarter TD.
The Pride's Chris Palme later
booted 38 and 24-yard field goals to make the scored 7-6 at the break.
The NCWC defense also forced four
turnovers in the wet conditions and the Pride passing game struggled. GC
quarterback Justin Roberson was 1-9 for 27 yards and threw one interception.
