Salisbury,
Md - Junior quarterback Travis Peters, making his first collegiate
start, rushed for 158 yards and three touchdowns to lead Salisbury to a
54-20 non-conference win over Greensboro at home. The Sea Gulls improve
to 4-0 overall, while Greensboro falls to 0-3.
Greensboro
scored first and led 7-3 after one quarter. Corey Eadie (6 catches
for 93 yards) scored on a pass from Justin Roberson with 4:57 left
in the first quarter.
Yet Salisbury
rebounded with 37 straight points in the second and third quarters.
Peters put
Salisbury ahead for good with a three-yard touchdown run at 10:43 of the
second period, capping a six-play, 53-yard drive. Peters didn’t take long
to find the end zone a second time, scampering 49-yards on the first play
of Salisbury’s next possession to push the lead to 16-7.
Brock Boland’s
second field goal of the game, a 42-yarder at 3:09, and fullback Leroy
Satchell’s 21-yard touchdown run with 2:25 left in the quarter extended
Salisbury’s lead to 26-7 at halftime.
Peters scored
his third rushing TD of the game at 9:36 of the third quarter on a 41-yard
run. DB Byron Westbrook’s 30-yard fumble return for a touchdown six minutes
later pushed the lead to 40-7 at the end of the quarter.
Greensboro
answered with two touchdowns in the fourth quarter, with Mike Pollard
scoring
on a 42-yard run and WR Korey Johnson catching a 16-yard touchdown
pass from QB Roberson (15-of-31, 146 yards, 2 TDs, 2 INT), pulling the
Pride to within 40-20 with 8:25 left.
Salisbury capped
the scoring with a pair of three-yard touchdown runs by freshman back-up
quarterback Justyn Lankford in the final 4:19 of the game.
The Sea Gulls
generated 327 yards rushing and 418 total yards.Greensboro finished with
92 yards rushing, with Pollard leading the way with 40 net yards. The Pride
committed four turnovers overall.
Greensboro
plays at Guilford in the eighth Souper Bowl next Saturday. Kickoff is at
1 p.m.
