Greensboro, N.C. -- Kenyatta Campbell caught two fourth quarter touchdown passes from Justin Roberson as Greensboro College defeated Shenandoah University, 24-19, at Jamieson Stadium on Saturday.
With the win, The Pride earned its first every win over a ranked opponent since Greensboro College began playing football in 1997. Shenandoah (4-2, 2-1 USA South) entered the contest ranked 30th in the nation. GC improved to 2-4 and 1-2.
"That was a huge win for us, but we know we can do good things in our program," said GC Head Coach Neal Mitchell. "The defense stopped them in the fourth quarter and we like the weapons we have on offense."
Both of Campbell's scores came on fade patterns where the 6-5, 230-pound receiver out-jumped smaller SU defensive backs for the ball. His first score came with 9:49 left. The final TD was a 28-yard third down catch with 5:5 remaining.
"Kenyatta is coming into his own," said Mitchell. "He is big and can out-jump just about anybody for the ball.
Freshman receiver Corey Eadie also had a big day. He had 10 catches for 94 yards and a first quarter TD grab. Senior running back Quentin Caldwell notched his second 100-yard game of the season with 114 yards on 17 carries.
It was Roberson, however, who successfully directed The Pride offense. He was 14-27 for 161 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
"Justin has done a great job managing the offense," said Mitchell. "He deserves a lot of credit for the win."
Greensboro led 10-7 at the break, but the Hornets answered with two touchdowns in the third quarter. Shenandoah tight end Maurice Coleman snatched his second TD reception of the day from Jon Hoffman (6-20, 93 yards) to put SU ahead. A muffed snapped on the PAT left the score 13-7.
Anthony Frates (22 carries for 92 yards) scored on a 3-yard run with 1:25 left in the third quarter for SU's final tally. The two point conversion made the score 19-10.
GC held The Hornets scoreless in the final period. Senior Alan Revels led GC defense with 8 tackles (6 unassisted) and one sack. The Pride plays at Averett next Saturday at 1 p.m.
