The USA South
Athletic Conference has announced the results of its 2004 football pre-season
poll.
Greensboro College
is picked to finish sixth among the conference's seven football playing
institutions. Christopher Newport was unanimously predicted to win its
fourth consecutive conference title.
North Carolina
Wesleyan, which placed seventh in the poll, is playing its first season
of intercollegiate football this year.
The poll is
voted on by the football coach at each school. Each school was not allowed
to vote for its own team. CNU was chosen first on all six ballots of the
other head coaches.
Since the inception
of USA South football in 2001, the Captains have split all three regular
season championships - with Ferrum in 2001 and 2002 and Shenandoah in 2003.
The Hornets have been slated to finish second this year, with the Panthers
slightly behind at third. The poll is rounded out by Methodist, Averett,
Greensboro and N.C. Wesleyan.
