Linville's teams have placed in the top seventh at the NCAAs in ten of his 13 seasons coaching The Pride. The biggest achievement, of course, was leading Greensboro College to its first-ever national championship. Linville, however, had three other huge accomplishments over the course of the season. He earned South Region Coach-of-the-Year and National Coach-of-the-Year among NCAA Division III coaches as selected by the Golf Coaches Association of America. In May, he was chosen to coach the United States College All Star team in its annual competition against Japan.
In January 2001, Coach Linville followed up with the South Region Coach-of-the-Year and National Coach-of-the-Year honors selected by the GCAA for the second straight year.
During Linville's tenure, The Pride golfers has never been ranked outside the Top 15 nationally. Linville has coached 12 All-Americans, 19 All-South recipients, 10 academic scholars, two National Player-of-the-Years and one National Freshman-of-the-Year.
Linville graduated from Guilford College in 1980. He was a four-time All-Conference and All-District golfer, as well as an All-American in 1979. In 1993, Linville was inducted into the Guilford College Hall of Fame. As a student at Guilford, he was honored with The Athletic Leadership Award and the Best Senior Athlete Award. He graduated with with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Economics.
After graduating, Linville continued his playing aspirations by competing on the Mini Tours in Florida. He had several top finishes, including one victory with a two-round total of 133 (65-68). Linville manages the Precision Golf School, which currently operates at a number of Triad locations including Bryan Park. Linville was named PGA Teacher-of-the-Year for the Carolinas in 1993.
Linville and Beth live in Greensboro, N.C. They have two daughters, Danielle and Sarah.
