Scott Tiernan Pride Head Men's Golf Coach

Scott Tiernan was named head golf coach at Greensboro College in May, 2007. He also took on the newly created assistant sports information director position at the college and is a full time employee at GC.

Tiernan played collegiate golf at NCAA Division I College of William and Mary. He was a team captain for The Tribe and he graduated from W&M in 1996. He has eight years of teaching experience (language arts and physical education) and earned a Master's degree in Education in 2002.

"In Coach Tiernan, we found someone who has a great pedigree as a golfer and educator who has similar qualities and standards as Robert Linville,” said Pride Athletics Director Kim Strable. “He has been learning the ropes under Robert's tutelage together they will continue making golf value-added for our players."

Tiernan replaced longtime Greensboro College Golf Coach Robert Linville who retired as head coach.
Linville finished his 13th season heading the Greensboro College Golf Program in 2006-07. Remarkably, Linville's teams placed in the top seven at the NCAA national tournament in ten of his 13 seasons coaching The Pride, inclduing leading the 2000 Pride team to GC’s first ever national championship in any sport. Linville currently serves as The Pride's associate head coach.

“This really is an exciting opportunity for Scott,” Strable said. “We hired our first full-time SID in 1997. Since then, partly due to changing technology, the demands and importance of athletics communications have increased. We feel extremely fortunate in finding a perfect fit for combining the golf position with assisting in sports information. It is such an asset when coaches can be fulltime with the College, especially when they have skill sets that meet other departmental needs."

Scott and his wife Dorothy have a daughter Sophia, who was born in May, 2007.
