Four Greensboro College soccer-playing student athletes have received South Region recognition, selected by the National Soccer Coaches' Association of America (NSCAA).

Senior Glen Collins (Christchurch, N.Z./Shirley Boys) and Junior Duncan Edwards (Paraparaumu, N.S./Kapiti College) were named to the region's first team.

Collins, The Pride team captain, helped GC to an 18-3-1 record and an NCAA Elite Eight appearance. He led a defense that allowed just one goal per game. Collins was a three-time South Region first team pick and a four-time Dixie Conference first team selection. He was the DIAC most valuable player in 2001.

Edwards, a forward, scored 21 goals and had nine assists for this year's Pride team. In just three years, Edwards has become Greensboro College's all-time leader in points (129) and goals (54). In Greensboro's first round NCAA match against Hardin-Simmons last month, Edwards set a GC and NCAA playoff record with 4 goals and 1 assist for 9 points. The striker is both a three-time first team DIAC and South region pick. He was the 1999 Dixie Rookie-of-the-Year and 2000 DIAC Player-of-the Year.

Lindsey Selsmeyer (Endicott, NY/Endicott) and Michael Smith (Wellington, N.Z./Tawa College) earned South Region third team status for the women's and men's teams repsectively.

Smith, a defender, was a mainstay for the GC back line. He also scored seven goals and had two assists for the conference regular season and tournament champion Pride. GC made its eighth straight NCAA appearance in 2001. Smith, a sophomore, was a first team DIAC pick the past two seasons.

Selsmeyer, a freshman, is the first Pride woman to be named to the regional team. She scored 15 goals and passed for 5 assists for GC women's soccer. Selsmeyer was a first team Dixie selection and won conference Rookie-of-the-Year honors.

The Pride was 12-6 in 2001, and shared the Dixie Conference regular season title with North Carolina Wesleyan.
