Rusty Scarborough
has been named head coach of the Greensboro College men's soccer team,
Pride Athletics Director Kim Strable announced.
Scarborough has nearly 20 years of
soccer coaching experience in North Carolina. Most recently, he served
as the director of coaching for the Twister Soccer Club in Greensboro.
Scarborough also is an assistant coach for the Carolina Dynamo of the USL
D-3 Pro League.
Previously Scarborough served as an
assistant coach for UNC Greensboro (1995-99). He also held head coaching
jobs at North Carolina Wesleyan College, Greensboro Day School, Providence
Day School, Oxford Orphanage and Kerr Vance Academy.
A graduate of Campbell University,
Scarborough received an advanced national degree from the National Soccer
Coaches' Association of America in 1998 and holds a class B soccer coaching
license.
"While we certainly did not want to
lose Darren Powell, Greensboro College is fortunate to have someone of
Rusty Scarborough's caliber," said Strable. "His experience at the college
level--and contacts in the North Carolina soccer community make him the
ideal choice to lead our men's soccer team."
Powell, Scarborough's predecessor,
was 50-12-3 in three seasons for GC. He led The Pride to three Dixie Conference
championships, three NCAA Tournament appearances and the national title
game in 1998.
Scarborough lives in Greensboro with
his wife, Dayna. They have two children: Kirstyn (14) and Draegen (12).
