Pride Men's Soccer Earns 7 USA South Team Honors

Greensboro College student-athletes have earned seven honors on the 2003 USA South Men’s Soccer Team.

Ben Maxwell (Raleigh, NC/Leesville Road), Tony Falvino (Johnsonville, NZ/Onslow College), and Michael Smith (Wellington, NZ/Tawa College) earned first team recognition. 

Maxwell, a junior forward, leads the team with 14 goals. Falvino, a sophomore defender, adds one goal on the season for the Pride. Smith, a senior defender, has two goals and two assists for the Pride. GC's defense has allowed just 13 goals in 18 matches.

The Pride also have three players—Freshman Galen Reid (Greensboro, NC/Page), and Matt Mulvena (Wilmington, DE/St. Elizabeth), with Junior Aaron Holcomb (Pickerington, OH/Pickerington)--who earned second team USA South honors.

Reid, a forward, was also named the USA South men’s soccer rookie—of the year. He is second on the club with 20 points (9 goals and 2 assists).

The Pride (12-3-3, 4-1-2 USA South) travels to Newport News, VA for this weekend's USA South Tournament. GC faces Shenandoah in a semifinal game at 5 p.m. Host CNU faces North Carolina Wesleyan at 7 p.m. 

The championship game is Saturday at 7 p.m. The winner advances to the NCAA playoffs. The Pride has qualified for the NCAAs the past nine years.
