Greensboro College Men's Tennis
Review of the 2000 Season
The 1999-2000 Pride men’s tennis team joins the 1985 and 1997 squads as one of the best, if not the most outstanding team  in school history.  With a #11 regional ranking in the powerful South Region, the Pride finished second behind top-ten nationally ranked Averett College in the Dixie Conference championships. GC placed three players in the singles finals—as well as the number three doubles team.
In finishing second at the DIAC Tournament, the GC men's tennis team won a pre-season wager. The Result: Tommy Waters did the honors (left) and shaved coach Kim Strable's head (see new profile at right).
With an overall record of 13-4, the team’s only losses were to the Dixie and Old Dominion conference champions and runner-ups: all regionally ranked teams.  Along the way, The Pride also captured the team championship of the Ferrum College Spring Invitational, and shut out 10 of its opponents during the season.

Four Pride players earned second team all Dixie Conference: senior Jay James at number two singles;  junior Tommy Waters at number four singles; freshman Nickolay Bochilo at number six singles; and junior Mitch Haney at number three doubles with partner Bochilo.  Junior David Basten at number one singles, and junior Brandon Brookshire at number three singles, earned third place finishes.

James concluded the season 19-3 overall. Two of his losses were three-set battles with Averett’s nationally ranked number two singles player.  James finished his three-year career with the highest winning percentage of any player in school history (42-16/.724).
