Young Greensboro College Men's Tennis Team Finishes 6-9

GC men’s tennis fielded a young and inexperienced squad this season. The Pride’s number one through five singles players were underclassmen: four being freshmen. Greensboro College men’s tennis finished 6-9 overall, yet had a number of high marks during the year.

Leading the way was P.G. Grane, a freshman who played number one singles and doubles all year.

“P.G. battled the region’s best players playing at number one,” Head Coach Pat Williams said. “He has exceptional talent, is mature for a freshman, and finished fifth at conference. We’re confident P.G. will have a tremendous career playing for The Pride.”

At the Hilton Head Island Spring Break event, The Pride had a 2-1 record. GC also had two exciting 4-3 wins. One was over Maryville, and the other was in conference at North Carolina Wesleyan. Junior Carlo Gonzales led GC with a 7-6 mark at number six singles.

“This young team had success early in the year,” said Williams. “We went through a growing process and I’m proud of the way the team competed. With our top five players expected to return, I’m counting on big things from this squad next season.”

Pride Postseason Honors: P.G. Grane, Pride Team MVP; Carlo Gonzales, GC Coaches' Award; Chris Heath, Pride Most Improved Award.
