Dave McCain

Pride Head Men's
Tennis Coach

Dave McCain enters his third season as men’s tennis coach at Greensboro College in 2007-08.

The 2006-07 Greensboro College tennis teams had some major achievements. Topping the list was David Sutton's outstanding season.

GC went 2-4 in conference but suffered three heartbreaking 5-4 defeats in its dual season. The Pride also produced two all conference netters in juniors Francois Theriault and Sutton. Sutton was regionally-ranked and earned conference player of the year accolades. He finished the year a perfect 12-0 at number one singles and is GC’s first ever conference men’s tennis player of the year.

No stranger to collegiate tennis, McCain was the NAIA National Coach of the Year twice at his alma mater, the University of Illinois-Springfield.

McCain also coaches The Pride's women's tennis team and works as the director of tennis for the Precision Golf and Tennis Academy at Bur Mil Park.

Prior to relocating to Greensboro, McCain spent the previous two years coaching his daughter, Kellie, on the WTA pro tour. Under his direction, Kellie McCain advanced to a #119 world ranking. Prior to that, he was the Academy Managing Director of Saddlebrook International Tennis in Wesley Chapel, Fla. McCain previously owned and directed McCain International Tennis Academy in St. Petersburg, Fla.

"We couldn't be more thrilled to have a professional of Dave's caliber leading our tennis program,” Pride Athletics Director Kim Strable said. “Besides being a great instructor, he's just an outstanding person who is a great fit for our campus community. Dave has a reputation for making average players good and good players great. He's widely respected in the tennis community nationally and is a great asset for Greensboro."

McCain also coached other professional players including former top 20 WTA player Mary Lou Piatek. He has coached high school singles and doubles champions in Illinois and Florida, USTA national juniors indoor and clay court champions (girls and boys).

McCain lives in Greensboro and with his wife, Sue, who is also a former player and coach. His daughter, Kellie, was an All-American at Duke and his son, Danny, was a full scholarship player at the University of Michigan.
