Greensboro, N.C. -- Bryan
Galuski has been appointed head men’s basketball coach at Greensboro
College, announced Pride Athletics Director Kim Strable.
Galuski arrives after spending seven
seasons as an assistant coach at Eckerd College--his alma mater. At Eckerd
he played a key role in the Triton recruiting efforts as well as the day-to-day
operation of the basketball program under coach Tom Ryan.
Galsuki replaced Rusty LaRue who led
GC to a 10-15 finish last year.
"Coach Galuski was a finalist for
this position a year ago and made a highly favorable impression on the
search committee and campus community," said Strable. "After assisting
a great head coach for one of the top NCAA II programs in the country,
we're convinced he is more than ready to assume leadership at GC."
Prior to becoming the top assistant,
Galuski was an admissions counselor in 1999 has been involved in a number
of ancillary duties at Eckerd.
Galuski graduated from Eckerd in 1998
with a degree in business administration. As a senior, he led the Tritons
and was sixth in the Sunshine State Conference in scoring, averaging 14.7
points per game. He also ranked eighth nationally with 2.95 steals per
game. Galuski was an instrumental part of the 1994-95 team that won an
SSC championship and the 1995-96 team that went three games into the national
tournament. Galuski was a two-year captain and named to the SSC First Team
All-Conference, and made South Region All-American.
Galuski is among Eckerd’s career leaders
in scoring, rebounding and steals. He finished his 112 game career 19th
in school history in scoring with 811 points, fourth in steals with 154,
fifth in single season steals with 54, and seventh with 379 career rebounds.
"Bryan is an outstanding young man
and one of the best young coaches that I've been around," said Coach Ryan.
"He's worked extremely hard and is ready to lead his own team. I confident
he will succeed and will be an outstanding ambassador for Greensboro College."
Galuski is a graduate of Shaker High
School in Latham, New York. He and his wife, Julie, plan to relocate to
Greensboro in the near future. Bryan's brother, Mike, was a member of The
Pride men's basketball team from 1998-00.
"Bryan has experience as an admissions
counselor and has had major responsibility for the basketball recruiting
at Eckerd," Strable said. "He's very much in the mold of Coach LaRue in
that he's charasmatic and articulate, and simply a quality person."
