A.D. Q&A With Rusty LaRue
Q: How did LaRue become our new
men’s basketball coach?
A: “We were fortunate in that this
was a transition time for Rusty and the opportunity lined up well with
his personal and professional aspirations. He’s got an impressive upside,
has had incomparable life experiences, and is the consummate “role model.”
I’ve always believed that Rusty LaRue should be one of the faces the NCAA
uses to portray what is right about college athletics. Great student, great
athlete, great community citizen, check all of the above… He’s the
total package.”
Q: What are you impressions of
Rusty as a person?
A: “The very best compliment I could
pay Rusty LaRue is that if I had a son who had a chance to play college
basketball, I’d want him to play for someone with the same character, leadership
qualities, and passion for excellence as Rusty LaRue.”
Q: Are you concerned about LaRue’s
past coaching experience?
A: “People well acquainted with Rusty
know that one of his real success secrets
is being a true student of the game.
When you understand that he has been a pupil of some of the best coaching
in the world, I think he is very well prepared to launch his coaching career
at Greensboro College.”
Q: How does Rusty “fit” with Greensboro
College?
A: “Rusty’s priorities line up well
with what we believe Greensboro College is all about. He fully embraces
the many virtues of higher education, has a strong faith commitment, places
a high value on family, believes the quality of life is incredible in the
Triad area, and completely understands the value of intercollegiate athletics
within the college community. He also is a proven winner who indeed believes
that good is the enemy of best.”
Q: What will LaRue’s other ancillary
duties be at Greensboro College?
A: “We plan to involve Coach LaRue
with our Circle of Pride Athletics Booster
Club as an Assistant to the Athletic
Director for Development. He will assist in some of our special projects
and help grow and develop our membership.”
Q: Do you have any final thoughts?
A: “I couldn’t be more pleased
to have Rusty LaRue on our staff. I believe Rusty will make his mark here,
just as he has everywhere else in his young life. I like to talk
about coaches in terms of having the appropriate tools, and Rusty’s toolbox
is full.”
