GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Twelve student-athletes
form the inaugural North Carolina Collegiate
Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) College Division All-State
Men’s Basketball Team released Monday.
Greensboro College's Rodney
Blackstock was piced the NCCSIA all-state second team. The senior
forward aveaged 16 point and 6 rebounds for the 2004-05 Pride team.
The team consists of non-NCAA Division
I student-athletes from North Carolina colleges and universities. Nominees
were submitted by North Carolina sports information professionals. NCCSIA
members voted for the all-state teams.
The All-State basketball teams include
five student-athletes. There was, however, a tie on the men’s college division
second team, thus there are seven recognized student-athletes for that
team. Teams are selected for men and women in both the college and university
(NCAA Division I) divisions.
Founded in 2002, The North Carolina
Collegiate Sports Information Association (NCCSIA) is comprised of sports
information professionals from NCAA Division I, II, III, NAIA and independent
institutions from the state of North Carolina. The purpose of the organization
is to promote collegiate athletics at all schools. Membership is open to
anyone affiliated with a college, university or conference located in North
Carolina, and whose area of responsibility lies within sports information.
NCCSIA selects all-state teams in
the University (Division I) and College (Division II, III, NAIA) divisions
for men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, softball and
baseball.

Pfeiffer University led the way with
two first team All-State picks. Damien Argrett, a senior forward, averaged
20.1 points and shot 59-percent from the field for the Falcons. He was
a Daktronics All-American and NABC All-Region selection.
PU Teammate Rico Grier, the Carolinas
Virginia Athletic Conference (GVAC) player-of-the-year, helped Pfeiffer
to a 27-5 record. Grier recorded 16 points per game from the guard position.
The senior earned NABC All-America distinction and was chosen Pfeiffer’s
team MVP three times.
Sophomore Elton Cofield led Mount
Olive College to the program’s best all-time finish in 2004-05. Paced by
his 17.6 points-per-game, the Trojans finished 29-5 and reached NCAA Division
II quarterfinals. A guard, Cofield was tabbed the most outstanding player
at the D-II East regional, was a first team All-East Region and All-CVAC
selection.
Triple threat Trayvon Lathan of Chowan
College averaged 17.9 points, 7.5 rebounds and 4.8 assists for the Braves
this year. The sophomore guard became the fastest CC hoopster to reach
1000 points this season. Lathan--who now has 1006 career points--recorded
21 double-digit games for the 14-12 Braves.
Rounding out the NCCSIA College Division
First team is Jonathan Moore of North Carolina Central University. The
senior forward scored 19.4 points and 8.8 rebounds and helped the Eagles
to a 16-12 mark. Moore, who posted 11 double-doubles during the year, was
voted to the Daktronics NCAA Division II South Atlantic All-Region Second
Team.
NCCSIA’s university division squads
will be announced later this week. The college division women’s team was
released last Friday.
