Mike Cappe Led 2001
Pride Men’s Lacrosse
The Pride men’s lacrosse squad—an NCAA Division III Independent—played a very bullish schedule. In fact, GC once again played one of the toughest strength-of-schedules in the country, resulting in a hard-fought 3-10 season.

The 10 teams that GC lost to were nationally-ranked at the time of their game—or are currently ranked-in the U.S.I.L.A. Top 20.

Seniors Mars Anguiano, Mike Cappe, Jack Christensen, Joe Corbett, Chieu Lam, Curtis Perez, Jay Sothoron and Trevor Shattuck closed their Pride careers.   In fitting fashion, seniors scored nine of GC’s 11 goals en-route to beating cross-town rival Guilford, 11-7, in Greensboro’s season finale.

Shattuck—a versatile player who played every position at GC—had a particularly outstanding senior game. He scored four goals against the Quakers, which gave him a season total of 15.

Anguiano closed his Pride career with 89 points, ranking him third on the Greensboro College men’s lacrosse scoring chart. “He was the elder statesman for Pride lacrosse,” Cetrone said. “Mars was like having a coach on the field.”

The team most valuable player, however, was senior goalie Mike Cappe. Cappe got off to a hot start. Early in the season he was number one in goalkeeping rankings by the Lax.Com.

“Mike has been through a lot during his years at GC, but he stayed focused and was a mainstay in the goal,” said Cetrone. “He played the most difficult position with passion and heart. He left everything on the field.”

The Pride has solid building blocks for a successful future. Rising senior attackman Ryan Potts led the team in goals (20) and points (26). Newcomer-of-the-Year Tim Ryan scored eight goals at midfield. The freshman from Ohio  should be a GC leader in years to come.
