Guilford 7, Greensboro 6
Greensboro, N.C. -- Ed Massello scored with 18 seconds left in the fourth quarter to lift visiting Guilford College to a 7-6 win over Greensboro College (8-6) at Pride Field on Wednesday. Massello had two scores in the game.
For the Quakers (5-8), it was their first win over its cross town rivals since April 23, 1996. Andrew Vigne recorded 20 saves for Guilford.
In the seesaw game, Greensboro's Andrew Carey scored on an off-balance shot to tie the game, 6-6, just 35 seconds earlier. Ian Montgomery assisted on the play.
Guilford opened the game with the first three goals and led 3-1 at the end of the first period. The game was tied 3-3 at halftime.
The Pride took its first lead of the game in the third quarter when Montgomery tallied an unassisted goal with 11:45 remaining in the period. Quaker Todd Bochenek scored with 6:10 remaining in the quarter and the game was knotted at 4-4 entering the final 15 minutes.
The Pride outshot the Quakers 47-29. GC's Corey Reina collected 10 saves.
