Bradley Herndon has been appointed
as head women's swimming coach at Greensboro College, announced Pride Athletics
Director Kim Strable.
Herndon has been the head coach of
Star Aquatics in Greensboro, a program that has produced several state
champions and nationally ranked swimmers in varying age groups. He has
also been the Aquatics Director for the Pyramids Wellness Centers in Greensboro
since 1999.
A former captain of the East Carolina
University swim team, Herndon was part of setting ECU and Colonial Athletic
Association (CAA) records in the 200 medley and freestyle relays. He was
a three year member of the CAA Academic All-Conference Team and a North
Carolina Teaching Fellow, earning a B.S. in Health and physical education
with teaching certification in grades K-12.
"Coach Herndon has a tremendous reputation
as a teacher, coach, and most importantly, as a person and we are delighted
to welcome him to our staff," said Strable.
A cum laude graduate, he completed
teaching stints at Ayden (N.C.) Elementary, Oak Ridge Military Academy
and in the Randolph County (N.C.) Schools, while also serving for five
years as the manager and head swim coach of the Sedgefield Swim and Racquet
Club in Greensboro. Besides being a USS certified and ASCA level 2 coach,
Herndon is a certified pool operator and is vice-president of the Greensboro
Community Swim Association.
Herndon replaces Kevin Thornton who
resigned on February 28th. Herndon and his wife Dana have two children,
Addy (6) and Craig (4). They reside in Greensboro.
