| Pride Splits in First Day of Conference

Raleigh, N.C. -- Greensboro College
defeated Shenandoah, 2-0, in a 1st round game of the USA South Softball
Tournament on Friday afternoon.
The Pride scored its twice on unearned
runs in the third inning. Francis Constantino reached on a bunt
single and stole second. Jennifer Simms (2-3) then beat out a sacrifice
bunt, putting runners on the corners with one out.
Both runs then came across on the
next play. Lauren Manning struck out, but SU catcher Jodi Milburn
couldn't hold the ball and was forced to throw to first to retire Manning.
Constantino raced home on the play
and when the throw back to Milburn was high, Simms then scored all the
way from second.
Whtiney Williams allowed 4
hits and earned the shutout For GC. She struck out 7 batters and walked
one Hornet. Teresa Prezzy went 2-3 to lead SU, which ended its season at
10-22.

RALEIGH, N.C. - Top seeded
Christopher Newport claimed the second spot in the winners bracket semi-finals
of the USA South Conference softball tournament with a 7-0 victory over
No. 8 Greensboro in the quarterfinal round Friday afternoon at Buffaloe
Road Athletic Complex.
CNU (36-5) broke open a scoreless
game by scoring two runs in the fourth, three in the fifth and two more
in the sixth. GC (13-17-2) had battled the Lady Captains even for the first
three innings of the contest.
CNU plated the winning run in the
fourth when USA South Player of the Year Dallas Slosjarik singled to left,
stole second and came home on Ishman's RBI single to left.
Francis Constantino went 2-3
for GC. Jamie Pittman took the loss in the hill.
CNU plays No. 5 Averett game Saturday
morning at 11:00. GC plays the Peace at 9:00 in an elimination game.
