Pride Takes Two From Fighting Squirrels
Game One: GC 12, Mary Baldwin

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- The Greensboro
College softball team earned a 12-3 victory, in five complete innings,
over the Mary Baldwin College Fighting Squirrels for the first game of
a scheduled doubleheader at Salvation Army Field.
GC (9-1) was led at the plate by
freshman Jenee Johnson. She went 3-for-3, with 2 RBIs, and
scored one run. Senior Frances Constantino was 2-for-3, RBI,
and one run scored. Stacie Patterson helped herself on the
mound. She was 2-for-3 at the plate and had one RBI. Joy Daniels
went 2-for-3, with one RBI and Jennifer Sherrill was 2-for-3.
The Pride scored four runs in the
first, giving Patterson (2-0) all the runs she needed. Patterson
threw five complete innings, scattered four hits, gave up three earned
runs, walked five and fanned four.
GC broke the game open in the home
half of the fourth inning, scoring six runs. Starting the inning
with a Patterson double to left field, the next four Pride batters would
reach base. Left fielder Jenee Johnson brought home two runs
with a single to center field, as GC recorded six hits in the inning.
The Fighting Squirrels (0-1) rallied
by scoring three runs in the top of the fifth, however it was not enough,
as GC would score two more in the bottom of the fifth. Leadoff hitter Jennifer
Sherrill started the inning with a double to left, and was followed
by a Joy Daniels double to center. Jennifer Simms, the third
batter of the inning, singled to right field driving in Sherril and Lauren
Manning, a pinch runner for Sherrill, and ended the game with a 12-3
final.

GREENSBORO, N.C. -- In the second
game of the twin bill, Greensboro College would again put an early ending
to Mary Baldwin College, this time with a 10-2 final in five innings.
Freshman Jordan Davenport
(2-0) was on the hill for GC, pitching a complete game, allowing two earned
runs, five hits, and striking out three.
The Pride offense was led by the
middle of the lineup, where the 4-7 hitters accounted for six of the game?s
10 runs. Leading the way were Katie-Meagan Anderson (3-for-3,
2 RBIs, 2 runs) Jessica Clack (1-for-2, 2 RBIs). Catcher Samantha
Salter was 3-for-3, with an RBI, and scored two runs. Whitney Williams,
the fourth batter in the GC lineup, was 1-for-3, with one RBI, and one
run.
Mary Baldwin (0-2) scored in the
first inning, as leadoff batter Mina Uejima reached on a triple, and would
score just one batter later with a single back to the pitcher by Kelly
Lally.
In the second, GC (10-1) scored two
runs on two hits, the first coming after Anderson scored to tie the game
at 1-1, taking advantage of a Clack grounder to second base. The
Pride took the lead, and would not trail again, following a Lauren Engle
grounder to first that scored Salter.
The Pride would follow by scoring
four runs in consecutive innings, while the Fighting Squirrels managed
just one run in the top half of the fifth inning.
