Greensboro College Head Women's Softball
Coach Kama Tucker announced her recruiting class for the 2005 season.
The Pride welcomes two transfers:
Jennifer
Sherrill (Black Mountain, NC/C.D. Owen) and Kristen Slade
(Belhaven,
NC/Northside). Sherrill is a catcher who previously played at NCAA Division
I Stetson and Brevard Community College.
Slade was a standout pitcher at Louisburg
College and will be expected to impact the team immediately. "Kristen has
experience pitching against DI and DII teams as well as the best JCs in
the country," Tucker said. "She throws hard and moves the ball well."
All ten incoming Pride freshmen were
all-conference performers in high school. Five of GC's recruits were team
MVPs, and three were named conference player-of-the-Year.
Erica Brown (Randleman, NC/Randleman)
was a Greensboro News and Record All Area 1st Team selection in
her junior and senior years. "Erica is a hard worker with talent and will
only get better," said Tucker. "She throws hard and has a good mix of different
pitches."
Jordan Davenport (Downingtown,
PA/West) possesses potential. "She is 6-1 and is a very good low-ball pitcher
who has good speed," added Tucker.
Pitcher Stacie Patterson (Asheboro,
NC/Asheboro) will see some time on the mound as well. "The thing I like
most about Stacie is her intensity on the mound," Tucker said. "She is
raw mechanically, but is working hard to improve her skills. She had a
very good senior year at AHS."
"I am expecting big things from our
four new pitchers," said Tucker. "We need pitching depth all four bring
something different that will help move the program forward."
In the field, GC recruits bring speed,
power, and athleticism.
"Samantha Salter (Morehead
City, NC/Croatan) is a catcher with a good arm who can play in the
outfield," noted Tucker. "We added two very good infielders
in Megan Knight (Henderson, NC/Northern Vance) and Katie-Meaghan
Anderson (Wake Forest, NC/Wakefield)."
"Three other newcomers--Lauren
Engle (Downingtown, PA/West) and Jenee Johnson (Richmond, VA/Heritage),
Joy
Daniels (Wanchese, NC/Manteo)--can hit from either side and will see
most of their time in the outfield," Tucker said. "They have good speed
and good arms that we need in our outfield."
Jessica Clack (Clayton, NC/Clayton)
who can hit from either side and will be a utility player seeing time in
the infield and outfield."
"The key to success for this year’s
team will be teamwork," said Tucker. "We have a good group of returnees
with talent and leadership. I'm excited about our new recruits, too. I'm
impressed the by the whole team's selflessness. If they continue what we
have begun this fall, we will have a very promising year."
The Pride opens the 2005 season Feb.
20 hosting Randolph Macon Womans College.
