| The Pride softball program
made remarkable progress in 2005. GC finished 24-14, the best season ever
of Greensboro fastpitch. The green and white also placed second in the
USA South regular season: the highest finish of any Pride softball team.
The Pride reached new heights against
its toughest schedule to date. GC bested nationally-ranked Methodist, and
played hard-fought games against other nationally-ranked opponents.
Under second-year Head Coach Kama
Tucker—the USA South Coach-of-the-Year—the team improved its skill
level tremendously. GC matched the team batting average mark, and set new
team records for pitching, earned run average, and stolen bases, among
others.
First team all-conference pick Frances
Constantino hit .400 to lead The Pride. Constantino also earned
CoSIDA regional first team recognition. A regional academic second team
honors the previous two seasons, Constantino set a single season mark with
25 stolen bases this year. She leaves GC as the career thefts leader.
Four other Pride players earned all-conference
recognition. Jamie Pittman, Jennifer
Simms and talented freshman Jenee Johnson
were picked to the USAS second team. "We made strides this year and probably
surprised a few people," said Tucker. "But we actually thought we should
have done better, and expect to compete for the championship next season."
This year's success could not have
been accomplished without the hard work from our entire team. I am so thankful
to my assistants and to my players that worked hard to take this program
in the direction we hope to build upon next year. I am very proud of the
girls and cannot wait to see what we will accomplish in 2006!"
