Wilson, N.C. -- Kama Tucker, Greensboro College's softball coach, has been named to the advisory board for the Atlantic Coast Fastpitch League, ACFL Director of Operations Jason Newsham announced.
The Atlantic Coast Fastpitch League is a new women's summer collegiate softball league--similar to baseball's Coastal Plains League--that will begin play in June 2006. The league was formed in February 2005 and is based in Wilson, NC.
"Kama has given us great input not only from a coaching standpoint but a player's standpoint as well," said Newsham.
GC finished 24-14, the best season ever of Greensboro fastpitch. The green and white also placed second in the USA South regular season: the highest finish of any Pride softball team. Tucker was picked USA South Coach-of-the-Year following the regular season. Tucker and Greensboro College Softball worked the NCAA YES (Youth Education through Sports) Clinics at the 2005 Division I and Division II World Series. Tucker was a Field Director at the Division II YES Clinic in Salem, Va and assisted at the NCAA DI YES Clinic in Oklahoma City, OK.
In 2004--her rookie year--Tucker brought high-energy and enthusiasm to the program and led The Pride to a 14-18-2 overall record. Prior to coming to GC, Tucker had been the assistant softball coach at Peace College for two seasons. As a player, she was a two-time team MVP, all-conference player and tournament MVP at Barton College.
A native of softball-rich southern California, Tucker excelled academically at Barton where she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and religion. Tucker has a husband, David. They reside in Greensboro. Also named to the ACFL's advisory board was Leah O'Brien-Amico, a three-time Olympic Gold Medallist and three-time National Champion at the University of Arizona.
