Raleigh, N.C.— C.J. McQueen
scored on an error in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift fifth-seeded
Christopher Newport over top-ranked Methodist, 2-1, in a USA South elimination
game on Sunday at Buffaloe Creek Athletic Park.
McQueen (2-4, run, RBI) had doubled
with one out to reach base. Becky Bond reached on the error on the
play that scored the winning run. Janet Fairchild earned the win
on the hill for the Captains. She allowed three hits, struck out four and
walked three batters.
Kristen Kennedy was 2-3 for
the Monarchs. Jennifer Sorensen took the loss for MC. She fanned
six, walked three and allowed five hits.
Prior to the seventh inning, both
teams scored in the fifth frame to knot the score at 1-1.
CNU plays undefeated Ferrum at 1
p.m. The Captains need to beat FC twice to win the title.
