Pride Fastpitch Softball Sets
Program Record With 29 Wins
Greensboro College softball (29-15) placed second in the USA South Athletic Conference with an 11-3 mark and advanced to the conference tournament championship game for the first time.

At one point, GC won a program record 8 straight games. The Pride also went 5-5 at the prestigious SunWest Tournament in California. Additionally, the green and white shattered The Pride record book.

The team broke 29 records during the 2006 year. GC was 43rd nationally in hitting with a .329 team batting average.

Greensboro won its first two games of the USA South Tournament before falling to eventual champion Methodist. The Pride then upended NC Welseyan, 5-4, in an exciting 13-inning semifinal contest. In the championship game, ninth-ranked MC prevailed by a 4-3 score.

“Seniors Kristen Slade and Whitney Williams provided leadership and propelled our team ahead," said GC Head Coach Kama Tucker. "In addition to offense, our biggest strength was team chemistry."

As for individual awards, The Pride earned eight All-USA South conference honors. Most notably was GC's first ever USAS MVP: Jessica Clack. The sophomore shortstop batted .448 for GC. Joining Clack on the first team were Lauren Manning, Margaret Hamm and Slade.

Follwoing the season, Manning and Clack earned NFCA All Region honors. Manning, a junior second-baseman, was named to the region's second team. She hit .373 with a conference-leading 42 RBI. Manning was selected to the USA South first team last month and is tied for the national lead in hit by pitches with 14.

Clack was picked to the NFCA region third team. The shortstop was first in the league in runs scored with 46.

"We were very close to achieving our team goals this year and are looking forward to next season and possibly going to the NCAA's for the first time in school history," Tucker said.
