Colorado Springs, CO -- Greensboro
College junior Katie Smith has been
named All-Region, announced the American Volleyball Coaches' Association
(AVCA) today.
Smith, a native of Colfax, NC and
a graduate of Northwest Guilford High School, led the USA South Conference
in kills and blocks. She recorded 4.9 kills, 1.49 digs and 1.4 blocks per
game for GC. Earlier this month, Smith was picked USAS player-of-the-year.
The middle hitter lead The Pride
to a 27-10 record and a tie for first place (12-2) in the USA South. Smith
has earned three USAS first team honors, and was also named conference
rookie-of-the-Year in 2002.
Smith is GC's first all-region player
since 1995. She becomes the 15th All South honoree in Pride volleyball
history.
"I'm really excited for Katie since
she had a tremendous year," said Greensboro College Head Coach Jean
Lojko. "Katie's statistics speak for themselves, but all-region is
a huge honor and that is extremely difficult to attain."
