FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- Greensboro College, under the direction of Head Coach Jean Lojko in her 24th-year, was picked in the preseason coaches' poll to win the USA South Athletic Conference volleyball title in 2005. Greensboro received four of eight first place votes (46 points) as head coaches do not vote for their own teams in the balloting.
GC returns honorable mention All-American Katie Smith and eight other letterwinners from last year's club. Lojko has posted a 492-316 (.609) record in her tenure at GC. Just eight wins short of 500 in her career, Lojko's team begins play on Sept. 3rd at the Averett Invitational.
The Pride, six-time conference regular season champions, shared the 2004 title with Averett University and Christopher Newport University.
Christopher Newport, a tri-champ a season ago, finished second in the balloting with 44 points and three first place votes. Averett rounded out the top-three as the Cougars collected 93 points and one first place vote.
The volleyball regular season gets underway on Thursday, September 1 when Averett travels to Sweet Briar and Shenandoah visits Wilson.
