SEASON REVIEW
Pride Women's Soccer Placed Second in USA South and Defeated NCAA Sweet 16 Dickinson

The Greensboro College women's soccer team finished second in the USA South Conference with a 4-1-1 record. Overall, The Pride was 7-10-1. A highlight was a win over NCAA Sweet 16 finalist Dickinson.

GC earned the second seed in the conference tournament. Rival Methodist College, however, upset The Pride 1-0 and ended Greensboro's season.

The Pride garnered six USA South all-conference honors. Freshman forward Ashton Oliver earned conference rookie of the year and first team recognition. She led The Pride in scoring with 11 goals and one assist.

Named to the conference’s second team were sophomore forward Ashley Cabral; senior defender Megan Nutt; and senior goalkeeper Keri Wells. Nutt was also picked to the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District first team. Earning honorable mention recognition was junior defender Meredith Carroll.

One of the team's strengths was the defense. Helped by the defenders in front of her, Wells earned five shutouts on the year.

With just Nutt and Wells lost to graduation, new leader Franco Bari has 19 letter-winners expected to return for The Pride in the 2006 season. He replaced Tracy Ducar, who resigned to devote more time to her goalkeeper school.

2005 Pride Honors: Ashton Oliver, USA South first team, USA South rookie of the year, USAS rookie of the week; Ashley Cabral, USA South second team; Megan Nutt, USA South second team, USA South Tournament Team, CoSIDA/ESPN The MAgazine district first team; Keri Wells, USA South second team, USAS player of the week; Meredith Carroll, USA South honorable mention; Jackie Cianfrani, USAS player of the week.
