Pride Basketball Names Top All-Time Basketball Players; 
20 Former Hoopsters to be Honored on Saturday

Greensboro College will recognize the top ten men and women basketball players of all time this Saturday. The recognition will take place at halftime of the Pride men’s game against Averett at Hanes Gymnasium. Tip-off is at 4 p.m. (The GC and Averett women play at 2 p.m.).

TOP 10 PRIDE WOMEN (1981-2002)

Donna Christy (High Point, NC) 1983-87 Ninth in Pride career scoring with 876 points….Second in career assists with 468…Sixth in GC steals with 176….Also was a standout volleyball and softball player for Greensboro College....Coached by Jean Lojko.

Susan Gasperson (Cander, NC) 1987-89 Played two seasons at Greensboro College and was a first team Dixie Conference pick and made DIAC Tournament team both years….Averaged 18.6 points per game in career….Single season blocks leader with 41 in 1987-88….Single season free throw record holder with 88% in 1987-88....Coached by Lisa Stockton.

Kim Gosnell (High Point, NC) 1989-92 Two-time Dixie Conference second team selection….Fifth in GC career assists with 279….Eighth in steals with 172….Shot 87% from free throw line in 1991-92….Member of 1990-91 Dixie Tournament champion team....Coached by Sandy Sykes. 

Tina (Lineberry) Brannon (Asheboro, NC)  1995-99 Finished career with 1,432 points for fourth on GC scoring list….Pride career leader in rebounds with 1,083….Single-season rebound leader with 288 in 1996-97....Three-time Dixie Conference first  team pick…. Second team selection and DIAC rookie-of-the-year in freshman season….Two-time DIAC Tournament M.V.P….Verizon-Cosida South Region Academic Team….Member of 1997 DIAC champion and NCAA qualifying team....Coached by Steve Johnson.

Stephanie (Manus) Carter (Concord, NH) 1990-94 Second in GC scoring with 1,520 points….Also second in rebounding with 990….Three-time Dixie Conference first team pick….Second team DIAC selection….Dixie Tournament team….Third in Pride all-time steals with 204…Holds GC single-game free throw mark (13-14, 93%) against North Carolina Wesleyan in 1992….Member of 1990-91 Dixie Tournament champion team….Also played and coached women’s lacrosse at GC....Coached by Sandy Sikes and Steve Johnson.

Lorraine Orr (Charlotte, NC)  1984-88 All-time leader in Pride scoring with 1,672 points….Two-time second and two-time first team Dixie Conference pick….Ranks first in single-season scoring with 438 in 1987-88….Third in GC career blocks (43) and fifth in rebounds (729)…Tied for second in single game scoring with 34 points against Gallaudet in 1987....Coached by Jean Lojko and  Lisa Stockton.

Elaine Penn (Madison, NC)  1981-85 Second team Dixie Conference pick….Named to DIAC tournament team…11th on Pride scoring list with 759 points….Member of inaugural GC team in 1981-82 season….GC leader in career steals with 292 and assists with 488….Had program record 11 steals in a game on three occasions....Coached by Jean Lojko.

Nichelle Shelton (Madison, NC) 1986-90 Second team All-Dixie Conference and DIAC Tournament team pick in 1988-89 season….Scored 767 points in Pride career for tenth all-time….Second in total blocks with 55….Ranks fourth in program history with 764 rebounds....Coached by Jean Lojko and Lisa Stockton. 

Tara Thompson (Winston-Salem, NC) 1988-91, 93-94 Third on Greensboro College all-time scoring list with 1,492 points…. Three-time first team Dixie Conference selection….DIAC Tournament MVP in 1991….Fifth in GC blocks with 37….Had 706 rebounds, good enough for sixth all-time….Member of 1990-91 Dixie Tournament champion team....Coached by Lisa Stockton, Sandy Sikes and Steve Johnson.

Tricia Ziegler (Harrisonburg, VA) 1997-2001 Ranks fifth on Pride scoring chart with 1,056 career points….Third in career rebounds with 781….First team Dixie Conference pick in 1999-00 season….Fifth on GC steals list with 186….Coached by Steve Johnson and Kelly Mahlum.

Russell Anderson (Pickens, SC) 1985-89 Fourth on G.C. All-time scoring list with 1,517 points....One time DIAC first team pick....Two-time DIAC second team pick....Coached by Ron Mikels and Jim Tribbett.

Brad Apple (Greensboro, NC) 1990-94 Eighth on GC scoring list with 1,290 points.... NCAA all-division 3-point champ….Pride single-season three-point shooting leader (.538)....First GC basketball player to play professionally (Europe)....Member of 25-4 1994 Elite Eight/DIAC champion team....Coached by Sam Hanger. 

Kevin Beard (Greensboro, NC) 1991-95 Second all-time Pride scorer with 1,643 points....All time assists leader (603)....Played guard yet was third in career shot blocks 607....Two-time DIAC Tournament M.V.P. ...Two-time first team All-Dixie....Second team All-DIAC....Member of 25-4 Elite Eight team in 1994....Member of NCAA second round team in 1995....Played professionally in Korea...Coached by Sam Hanger.

Clarence Caldwell (Fayetteville, NC) 1973-77 All-time scoring leader with 2,354 points....Career rebounds leader with 1,008....1976 DIAC Tourney M.V.P....Ranks ninth all-time among NCAA Division III single season scorers with 32.8 ppg mark set in 1975-76....Ranks 14th in NCAA Division III in career scoring average....Has GC single game scoring mark of 47 points....Coached by Bob Burke, Milton Reece and Steve Traylor. 

Jeff Dastmalchian (Overland Park, KS) 1988-90 Fourteenth on GC all-time points list with 938...Played just two years  for GC....First team DIAC....Second team Dixie pick....DIAC Tourney team....Scored 38 points in a game—the fifth best single-game mark in Greensboro history....Coached by Jim Tribbett.

Damon Forney (Belmont, NC) 1977-81 Sixth on G.C. scoring list with 1,437 points....Three-time first team All-DIAC performer....19th in NCAA Career field goal percentage (63.1%)....GC single season field goal percentage leader (68.9%)....Coached by Steve Traylor, Steve Vacendak and Ron Mikels.

Marcus Keith (Raleigh, NC) 1983-85 First team All-Dixie Conference pick....DIAC Tournament team....Second team Dixie Conference selection....Coached by Ron Mikels.

Dean Oldham (Greensboro, NC) 1966-70 Tenth on Pride all-time scoring list with 1,272 points....Two-time first team Dixie selection....Member of GC’s first Dixie champion team that finished 15-10, 11-1 DIAC in 1967-68....Coached by Bill Ariail.

Greg O’Steen (Greensboro, NC) 1970-74 Third on Greensboro College scoring list with 1,592 points....Two-time first team Dixie Conference selection....Coached by Milton Reece and Bob Burke.

Cory White (Trenton, NJ) 1991-94 Seventh on all-time scoring list with 1,326 points....Member of 25-4 Elite Eight/Dixie Champion team of 1994....Dixie first team pick....Two-time DIAC second team selection.... Dixie all-tourney team....Second on GC shot-block list with 59....Coached by Sam Hanger.
