Shenandoah
72, GC 60
Shenandoah
University started slowly in its women's basketball game against USA South
opponent Greensboro College on Saturday afternoon, but the Hornets stormed
back late to take a 72-60 victory.
SU (5-10 overall,
3-4 USA South) trailed by seven points at the half, but the visiting (7-8,
2-4) could not stave off the Hornets second half charge.
With 9:35 remaining
in the contest, Greensboro freshman Ruthanne Clark knocked down a pair
of free throws to give The Pride a comfortable nine point lead, and an
ensuing turnover by SU junior Jenny Gray seemed to seal the lid on a GC
win.
Shenandoah
then went on a 20-3 run in the next 7:06 to take a 64-56 lead with
just over two minutes left to play. As the clock wound down all that was
left was for the Hornets to remain consistent at the foul line and cruise
to the 12-point triumph.
Greensboro
was led by the sophomore tandem of Sally Rice (13 points) and Christina
Daniels (11 points) in the loss. Adanna McDowell pulled down
a sesaon-high 10 rebounds for GC
GC record
7-8, 2-4; Streak L2; Up next at CNU, 2-1, 2 p.m.
