GC 75, Averett 72
Freshman Paris Buckner scored
a game-high 18 points to lead Greensboro College (9-9, 4-5) over Averett
University, 75-72, in a USA South contest at Hanes Gym on Saturday.
Buckner, who passed for 8 assists
and made 4 three-pointers, led 3 GC players in double figures. Fellow frosh
Ruthanne Clark scored 17 points and DaVenna Brown added 15
for the home club.
The Pride converted 10 three point
baskets in the game, the second most in program history. GC had 8 baskets
behind the arc in the first 20 minutes. The Pride, bolstered by hot shooting
(15-26/57 percent) GC led 43-28 at the break.
The visiting Cougars, however, fought
back in the second half. AU chipped away GC's lead and Jasmine Adams three-pointer
cut the margin to 74-72 with 4 seconds remaining. Clark then converted
1-2 free throws and The Pride held on for win.
Adams and teammate CeeCee Carter
each scored 15 points to lead Averett (2-16, 1-9).
