GC Wins USA South and Trip to NCAAs!

South Women's Basketball Tournament Headquarters/Tournament Team
Newport News, Va. -- Kim Enoch scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Greensboro College to a 69-59 win over Methodist College in the USA South women's basketball championship game on Saturday. With the win, The Pride advances to the NCAA tournament for the second time in program history (1997).
The script was the same for GC. As in its semifinal game vs. Peace, The Pride trailed much of the way and then took over in the second half. MC led by as many as eight points in the first half and held a 36-31 edge at the break.
"We were feeling the waters early and made some minor adjustments at halftime," said GC Head Coach Jason Tuggle. "We got some key defensive stops. But I think this team just stayed focused and was determined to win a championship."
Enoch, who was named the tournament MVP, did not do it alone. GC had three other players reach double figures: DaVenna Brown, 18 points (7-11 from the field); Sirlena Moore 15 points and Christina Daniels, 12 points.
Another key for GC was free throw shooting. The Pride made 18-22 (82-percent) from the charity stripe, including 8-10 by Enoch.
Sixth-seeded Methodist, on the other hand, rode the shoulders of Lisa Jackson for its upset bid. Jackson had a game-high 24 points and made four 3-pointers.
Enoch was named tournament MVP and Daniels was also on the tournament team. Greensboro's 21 wins is the most in the program's history. The first year of women's basketball was 1981-82.
