Trinity Defeats Pride in NCAA Second Round Game, 79-64

San Antonio, Tex. -- Guard Jenna Smith scored 20 points and had 12 rebounds as Trinity University (25-4) defeated Greensboro College (21-7), 79-64, in an NCAA Division III women’s basketball second round game on Saturday.

Kim Enoch scored a game-high 21 points for The Pride. Ruthanne Clark added 11 points for the visitors

The fifteen point margin was a bit deceiving. Greensboro trailed by just four points, 60-56, with 7:55 left. GC led by as many as 12 points in the first half and had the Tigers on their hels. Enoch had 13 of her points in the first 20 minutes. GC was 12-12 from the free throw line in the first period. The Pride led 43-39 at halftime.

Trinity forced 22 turnovers and had a big second half in its win.

“We played a great first half, but at this level you have to give it your best the whole way,” said GC Head Coach Jason Tuggle. “They’re a very good team and executed their game plan. We seemed a little tired at the end, but we had a great year. I expect to see us back in the tournament soon.”

For the game GC converted 21-24 from the charity stripe. Trinity out-rebounded The Pride 41-39, but by a 28-18 margin in the last 20 minutes.

GC ends the season with the most wins (21), most conference victories (12) and advanced farther than any other Greensboro team. The Pride also finished the season 11-0 at home.
