The Greensboro College women’s basketball team closed the 2006-07 year with an impressive record of 18-9 and 11-3 in conference games. GC placed third in the USA South regular season.
The Pride defeated visiting Peace College in the quarterfinals of the USAS tournament. Despite leading at halftime Greensboro lost to hostand eventual tourney championChristopher Newport in the semifinals. With that loss, GC fell short of reaching its third straight NCAA tournament appearance.
Guard Staci Humphrey closed her remarkable career for the green and white. She averaged 24.8 points and was named second team All-America by D3Hoops.com. For the second straight year, Humphrey earned WBCA honorable mention All-America and USA South conference player of the year honors.
Humphrey also set a single game scoring record with 40 points vs. NC Wesleyan on February 10. She notched three triple doubles and was second in the country in scoring and assists this year. Humphrey leaves GC basketball with a 22.8 scoring averagea program best.
“Staci put up some incredible numbers here at Greensboro College that may not be matched in a long time,” said GC Head Coach Jason Tuggle. “She played her best ball this season and matured as a player and person.”
In just his fourth year leading The Pride, Tuggle also reached a milestone in posting a 90-47 career coaching record. His 90 wins match the most of any GC women’s hoops coach.
The Pride had a total of 3 all conference selections. Sophomore Jamie Motsinger (11.5 points per game) was a USA South second team selection. Senior Amoria Bird earned honorable mention recognition. She averaged 7.2 points, grabbed 6.5 rebounds per game and posted 2 double-doubles.
